What is a concierge?

A concierge is a person or a business simplifying life by managing a personal and/or professional to-do list—taking care of the things that rob busy folks of valuable work and leisure time.

A concierge aims to provide the ultimate in personal and professional services. You’ll generally find a concierge tending to the wants, needs, and wishes of guests at large hotels and residents of urban complexes. A concierge will deal with any request a client may have, no matter how big, how small or how ordinary or strange it may seem.

Concierges were once considered a perk solely for celebrities and the wealthy. Today, independent personal concierge companies across the globe are helping time-strapped people from all walks of life to streamline and simplify their lives. These professionals are sometimes called personal assistants or lifestyle managers. They run errands, schedule appointments, research across the Internet, wait for home deliveries, and more.

Owners and operators of concierge and errand services are supported and advocated by the non-profit International Concierge and Errand Association (ICEA) and the National Concierge Association. These associations serve their members through essential resources, continuing education, networking, and other personal endeavors.

Why hire a concierge or personal assistant?

People in all social and economic circumstances are pressed for time these days. Theoretically, you can always make more money, but time is finite—there are only 24 hours in the day, no matter what. When those 24 hours are over, they're gone forever.

We work long and hard to keep jobs, nurture families, manage households, and maintain relationships. We have less time than ever to handle everyday tasks and plan special events.

What services does a personal concierge offer?

Personal concierges will handle almost anything on a business or personal to-do list. They accomplish these tasks in a professional, timely, and cost-effective manner. Clients pay them to run errands, walk the dog, get dinner on the table, buy gifts, make travel arrangements, find hard-to-get tickets, de-clutter closets, and myriad other tasks.

Specifically, what can a personal concierge do for me?

It’s impossible to offer a complete list of services the Get~it~Done Gurus provide (even though we’ve given it a try throughout this site). A small sampling of our personal assistance services include helping families settle in after a relocation, planning events and parties, caring for a home while owners are away, and helping the aging and/or temporarily disabled to maintain household and personal responsibilities. Most requests are welcomed as long as they're legal, ethical, and well intended. If you don’t see your need on one of our lists, please just ask us about it!

What are some other Important things for me to know?

  • Get~it~Done Gurus, LLC is fully insured and bonded.
  • We accept cash, personal checks, and credit cards (Master Card, Visa, Discover), for your convenience.
  • Payment in advance is expected, unless other arrangements are made.
  • A credit card deposit prior to services may apply.
  • Receive a 10% savings, on regularly priced packages and hourly rate, if you’re 65 years of age or wiser.
  • Fees do not include any purchases we make on your behalf.
  • Services can be bundled to satisfy your specific needs, projects, and schedule.
  • Gift Certificates from the Gurus are readily available. We can make them look pretty and even send ‘em out for you.
  • We prefer at least 24-48 hours notice, depending on the service. Yet, we do our best to accommodate last-minute requests for straight-forward services.
  • Charges for after-hours, Sunday, and holiday services are greater than normal rates.
  • Each day, you get free mileage for the first 10 miles we travel on your behalf (like when we're running errands for you). After that, we must bill 55 cents a mile, given the price of gas and all.
  • A $30 fee applies when canceling services within 24 hours.
  • If we’re doing something inside your home and we can’t get in, there’s a $30 oops-we’re-locked-out fee.
  • Returned checks result in a charge of $30, plus bank fees. Ouch!
